Good point and good idea. I am wondering though if we are duplicating efforts.

Does the SPA have a leadership committee? Do they have a process to find a leader? Is there anyone there that would be interested in opening up that process to the open market (i.e. every honest seeker of independence, not just party members)?

I have a feeling that their actual membership is pretty low, and thus it would be hard to find good people. Is there anyone out there that can answer this question?

Here are the Leadership Candidate Prerequisites for the SPA..

The actual number of memberships is a question I have never been able to get an answer on. My membership book starts at # 90821, is was one of the first ones printed, so I am sure they did not start at # 00001 :?

Most of this seems to be pretty standard fare, the question I still have is this. Due to the limited actual membership of the party, and the critical nature of this selection, is there a way to open the nomination\selection up to ensure that the broadest possible recruiting drive is put into place.

As I have stated before, I feel that this is not at all the time for individual party politics or egos to get in the way, at this point the most important criteria is that we all agree on independence and that is the focus of the whole group. We need someone who can win over the populous, regardless of how they envision the final product.

We need a western Guille Ducepe! The difference between Alberta and Quebec is that we have a habit of walking our talk. If we are presented with a solid case for independence, we will go through with it.

I suspect that a great deal of resistance will be encountered when trying to challenge the leadership of the SPA. While Bruce often said he did not want the leadership and their website claimed that a leadership race would be called immediately upon the party gaining registration, they immediately turtled up when I showed interest in the party leadership a little more than a year ago.

I announced my contention on Canada AM which apparently sent Bruce into a fury. There were meetings of the executive which put roadblocks up and held off any chance of a leadership convention until well after summer at which time Bruce said it was getting too close to election time to have a convention. After the late fall election, there was no mention of a race at all. Now I see that they have decided to wait until 2007.

While the SPA has constantly claimed to be seeking a leadership race, their actions have consistently indicated otherwise. I have seen no indication lately that their attitude has changed.

Hmmm. How were the roadblocks implemented? Consitutional amendments? What changes should be made?

Should the situation change, would you be interested in having another go at the leadership?

These are always a few issues when you get a used vehicle, though I have never had the former owner say they want to sell the vehicle and then not want to get out of the driver's seat.

Prices are low for new vehicle right now, employee pricing!

I don't know Bruce, but from what I can see it is little more than a one man show over there and he is the one man. I would be very curious to know the party membership and if it is even worth getting into a fixer upper, when we could build and brand an "independence" party. I see it as more of buying a lead list for sales, sometimes it is worth it, sometimes not.

Anyone else have any insights into the SPA and whether it is worth the effort?

Bruce are you out there? Any comments?

The roadblocks were made along the line of decisions from the executive which it appears can override their constitution.

My outlook has changed a great deal since the last election and I doubt that I would be interested in pursuing the leadership of a seccessionist party again. As I said in the other thread, I no longer feel that a direct partisan route is our path to independence.

Political parties never do. They like to use ID numbers that hide the total. The Reform party used non-sequential 10 digit numbers that included information about what riding you were in. When the Canadian Alliance was formed, membership numbers for existing Reform Party members started counting at 10010001 (member 10010001 was Deb Grey. Preston was 10010029). Members who'd joined through the United Alternative Initiative got numbers beginning at 20020001. New Alliance members who joined following the "merger" started counting at 30010001. Because I ran the system, I made myself member 11111111.
